Flying Delta With a Pet in the Cabin
Traveling with a small pet needs extra steps, so plan ahead.
Add your pet to the reservation
Pets in the cabin usually have to be added in advance, and space is limited per flight.
Choose an approved carrier
- It must fit under the seat in front of you
- It should allow your pet to stand and turn around
- Soft-sided carriers are often easier to fit
Check in at the airport
Pet travel often requires counter check-in, not online-only check-in. Allow extra time.
Fees and documents
A pet fee applies, so check the current amount for your route. Carry vaccination and health papers, especially on international trips.
Prepare your pet
- Get your pet used to the carrier.
- Feed lightly before travel.
- Walk your pet before security.
- Bring a small water bottle and a spare pad.
Security screening
You may need to take your pet out of the carrier at security while the empty carrier is screened.
